Little known fact… in the Netherlands, women don’t really change their name when they get married. They also don’t tend to get married anymore… everyone I know is in a partnership agreement.
 
When I went to the gemeente (city hall) to register my marriage to Husband I also presented them with my new name. They insisted that I hyphenate my name and I was all like, “No.” Haha I wanted to take my man’s last name; I’m a bit old fashioned but it was an honor. In the true Dutch fashion I was met with a, “dat kan niet.” After going back and forth I showed them my new American indentification and they finally conceded (although I still get official mail to my maiden-married name). 🤦‍♀️
 
Now, when I went to America to change my name… I was met with adulation as I presented my name-change forms. “You’re gonna be GROOOOT!” 🤣🤣🤣 Everyone thought #deGroot was *the* coolest last name and couldn’t believe it was real. I had to break it to them that a) I’ve never seen #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy and b) de Groot is ranked 10th in most popular surnames in Holland (think Anderson in the US). But the difference was alarming. In America, you can change your name and be whomever you want to be and in Holland, I had to be pushy to take Husband’s last name. It’s not good or bad, just interesting and I wanted to share. ❤️
 
What do *you* think today’s Audrey is trying to express? I’m getting an old-fashioned Audrey that love, love loves her man (and the cute little tree creature #Groot of course).
 
I wonder what she’ll look like tomorrow!! 🥂 🥳🎨🎥🍿
