The Social Dilemma - Netflix Must-See

Do you ever stop to wonder how exactly your newsfeed is impacted by what you search? When approached with a discussion of online privacy laws, you've said, "I'm good. I have nothing to hide." You may not know, but the days we're living in are chess moves that lead to checkmate on humanity ... if gone undetected.

TL;DR... Is the Social Dilemma documentary worth seeing? Yes!

"The Social Dilemma is a 2020 American docudrama that examines how social media's design nurtures addiction to maximize profit and its ability to manipulate people's views, emotions, and behavior and spread conspiracy theories and disinformation." Source Inspiration | Wikipedia

Deep Down Inside, You Know What's Happening.

You could be searching for something on google and then jump onto a social media platform and suddenly, as if by telepathy, you find yourself bombarded with stories, products, and ideologies whose sole purpose is to convert your current state of mind.

The conversion doesn't have to be defined, they just, in essence, yearn to convert you into a consumer. They want you to consume specific products, content, politically driven propaganda,Google and even use psychology tactics to train creepy af artificial intelligence (#CreepyAFAI) to get you -literally- right where they want you.

Tristan Harris, often referred to as the closest thing Silicon Valley has to a conscious, warns that the movements taking place in our technology are game-changing moves, "This is checkmate on humanity."

Guilty as Charged Right Here

Being in the digital marketing profession since I first opened my social marketing business back in 2011, I've known these psychological tactics and always used to somberly say, I mix the Kool-Aid but I don't drink it.

On the rare projects I take currently, I always try to use my power and knowledge for good and not evil; even though sometimes the darker side calls and excites my evil marketing side. The Svengali role can sometimes be defiantly alluring.

Given my background and firsthand knowledge of SEO and SEM, when I first watched Netflix's documentary, "The Social Dilemma," I was enthralled. FINALLY! Someone said it in layman's terms. And not just any "some" ones. The film puts former presidents, employees, and key players from the biggest social platforms front and center to explain the machine to us all.

I believe in my heart that EVERYONE who uses social media, search engines, websites... let's just say, everyone that uses the internet, needs to take a moment to watch this documentary. It will open your eyes to change your ways or at the very least, just allow you to see the modernized G-man peering over your shoulder 24/7.

Rant over... for now.

xoxo,

Your Travel Blogger

P.S. Don't have Netflix? No worries. I got you.

P.S.S. While on this geeky subject... can we take a moment to applaud and shout out to a series I binge and then re-binge from time to time.

Are you a major fan too? What do you suggest I watch next that has similar themes that get my brain sparking off in all the right places. Share in the feed below. Thanks!
